What I Remember About Union City Elementary School

Anthony Cox
I went there from K - about 5th grade so about 1978 - 1983. My mother was always a "grade mother" along with Alicia Rodgers mom.

I remember I had Mrs Camp, Mrs Palay, Mrs Norwood, Mrs Bingham.

I remember field day and always looking forward to that ice cold coke in a glass bottle after a busy day of playing outside. And story time in the library, I loved the Uncle Remus storys !

I remember that old army parachute we always used on field days to bounce those nerf balls around.

I remember the first computer I ever saw was that old Apple they used to keep in the back of the library, with the dot matrix printer.

I was also in the TAG class if anyone else remembers that, we went to a different school one day a week.

I remember opening the windows in the summer and turning on the fans to cool off in class.

I remember taking my lunch in one of those metal lunch boxes with a Thermos built in.

I remember those scary old radiators, and the wooden floor auditorium and the old metal gym set at the bottom of the hill.

I remember walking to school some days or walking to the NikNak store for some candy and a Yohoo, or maybe some Funyons !

I also remember Union City as being a nice quiet town until they built the mall and started putting in low income housing and it all went downhill after that. Oh the mall was nice for a few years but it soon went the way of so many other malls, like Greenbriar. I barely recognize my old neighborhood.

Anyone else remember ?
