What Are Required Documents for Your Auto Insurance Application?

Evan Nash
Applying for auto insurance will come with a lot of demands from the auto insurance company in reference to what you must provide to be insured. This information is not demanded to make it more difficult for you as the auto insurance company wants your business too, but it is necessary. For your auto insurance company to be profitable (and be around to pay your claims) they must be smart about what policies they take on and how much they charge. To do that they will require these three things, and possibly more:

1. The social security number of all drivers listed on the auto insurance policy will be requested in order to pull a driving history. This is the insurance company's way of trying to get a feel for the investment that they are making. No negative driving history will definitely pay off for you in ways that you may not have imagined. Having negative marks will cost you money, as it will to have another driver listed that has a poor driving history.

2. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) will be necessary to apply for auto insurance as it will give the insurer a history of your vehicle, as well as the necessary information about the style of the vehicle. This 17 digit number can be found on the windshield of the driver's side where the windshield begins to meet the dash. It is unique to every vehicle in the world and will identify the vehicle you drive as yours.

3. Your driver's license will be required to prove that you have a valid license to be able to drive in the area that you are requesting. Some insurance companies will reject an application of insurance if no drivers license is provided or available. You must be able to show that the state deems you good enough to drive so that the insurance company can insure you.

There will be other things that are required of you to get an application for auto insurance approved, but none will be bigger than the three listed here. Auto insurance companies will be very thorough in their requirements, but it will all payoff for you if you are a good driver. All drivers are put through this process and you can rest assured, the better driver you are the cheaper your coverage will be. Having this information ready to go will save you time in the process of getting approved for insurance, so don't waste your time!
