What is Satellite Internet Service and Why is it Right for so Many?

Ron Legarski
For many reasons satellite internet service could be a wise choice for many. It is very fast and it is also very reliable. What is satellite Internet service and how does it function? This will be covered. Next the different advantages and disadvantages will be listed. After you come to understand all of this it will be very easy to form an opinion on the technology.

How can this service be explained in a very simple way? Well it is essentially an internet service that uses space satellites to gain access to the internet. Most systems have a PC that is attached to a high speed modem. This modem is wired to a dish that is installed on top of the roof. It is similar to other types of broadband, however no phone or cable lines are needed.

For most people the best thing about satellite internet is the ability to receive access to the web in locations where this type of thing would have never been possible before. There are many people who live in remote mountain and desert areas that can now receive the internet. These users can now keep in touch with the entire world.

Let us not forget how very important the portability of these services are. If you have a cable or DSL connection it can sometimes be difficult to move it to another location. This is because the Internet provider of the service must be contacted to install it elsewhere. This is not the case with satellite internet. Simply pack up the components and move them to a new location.

When researching this type of service do not forget the fact that it achieves very high speeds. This makes the web load in very short amounts of time. Downloading should occur very quickly at broadband like speed. Broadband internet service is simply the fastest and most affordable type of service currently available to the rural consumer.

This technology does suffer from a few draw backs however. Some providers only offer internet service that is one way download only. To put it simply, this means that you can download from your internet connection but you will not be able to send information back. The solution of attaching a phone line in addition to the satellite is available and more of the providers are starting to offer two way services.

Interference sometimes occurs and the connection can be lost. Such a thing could pose as a huge inconvenience. The reason this occurs is because the internet is being sent to the location from a satellite that is orbiting the earth from space. Interference does not occur to often at all and it is sometimes said that similar interference occurs with other broadband technologies more often that it does with this one.

Everyday a whole lot of people are finding many reasons to utilize satellite internet service technology. The technology can be seen just about everywhere. From large urban cities to remote desert landscapes. The use of satellites make this possible. In the long run, the technology has a few snags but it is providing high speed web to all types of people that could never get it before.
