What is The Secret?

The Secret and The Law of Attraction is all the rage. The Secret, a "feature length movie" produced by Rhonda Byrne, has been featured on Oprah, Ellen, and Larry King. The premise of The Secret is that we can better ourselves through personal development and a change in mindset. The Secret is nothing new. It has been traced back in history. The official website of The Secret states that, "a number of exceptional men and women discovered The Secret, and went on to become known as the greatest people who ever lived." Some of these people include: Plato, Newton, Leonardo, Galileo, Napoleon, Hugo, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein and Carnegie.

I decided to check The Secret out for myself. A friend and co-worker bought The Secret. She is on board, excited and motivated. I love her outlook and wanted to have that same feeling. I decided to borrow The Secret from her. What an enlightening experience! The teacher in me felt like I would gain more from The Secret if I took notes so I grabbed my laptop and went to town. Three pages of typed notes later, I'm sold. I decided to buy The Secret as well. I am motivated and feeling more positive than I have felt in a long time.

A quote by Oprah sums it up well. "If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think." I know, easier said than done. Believe me, I've tried in the past. The Secret puts it all in perspective and outlines the changes you need to make in your thinking to have a more rewarding life. The Secret will help you understand just how important it is to keep your thoughts focused on what you want.

These are the first steps to living a fulfilling life based on The Secret and The Law of Attraction. This in no way can replace what is taught in The Secret. This is just a taste of it and my thoughts about what is shared in The Secret. If you get to the end of this wondering and wanting more. Buy The Secret. Take a chance and go for it!

These are the first steps to realizing The Secret.

ASK. I never thought to actually ASK for what I want. I was always so caught up in everything I didn't have and the woes in my life. *Sidenote - My life is/ was actually quite fulfilling, there are just aspects of it that have brought me down. So, put it out there. If you want money or a new car or a new job, ask. Verbalize it. Envision yourself in that job or car or living the life you want. Remember that it doesn't all have to be about the tangible things. If you want a relationship in your life to be more rewarding or your children to be better behaved, ask for it. Verbalize it.

BELIEVE. Yes, I said BELIEVE. You have to believe in yourself. You have to believe that it is already yours. Believe in the unseen. This sounds silly but really, close your eyes and think about it. Has there ever been a time in your life that you wanted it so much that you believed before it actually happened. A passing grade, that great job, a check in the mail... at some point in your life you have probably done this and not even realized it. Now find the focus deep within you and have an unwavering faith that what you want, can and will become a reality. A vision board can help you maintain your focus. There are lots of ways to create your own vision board but the idea is to have something visual that you can look at regularly to make your goals a reality.

RECEIVE. This is where you have to FEEL it. Imagine how it would feel when it arrives. Feel wonderful about it. Let it in, receive it and accept that you deserve it. Let it manifest itself. I want a new van. As I'm driving along in my "old van" I envision myself in a brand new, shiny van with great features and smooth ride. If nothing else, it makes me feel good.

The Law of Attraction is what this is all about. If you expect something to happen, then it will. If you are focused on your debt, then you will stay in debt. If you are focused on being debt-free, then you will be debt-free. After you watch The Secret, you will begin to notice evidence of the Law of Attraction everywhere - in your family, in your friends, and in yourself. We all attract circumstances and situations that align with our dominant thoughts. Take charge of those thoughts, and you will take charge of your circumstances.
