Queen Street Mall - This is the most popular shopping district within the city. It is a lengthy pedestrian mall, which you can enter it from various points within the Brisbane Central Business District. It is also popular due to its historic buildings with some dating back to Australia's Federation.
South Bank Parklands - The South Bank Parklands were actually created for Expo '88, but have been revamped over the years. One of the most popular features is Streets Beach, which is an artificial swimming lagoon with a tropical feel and look to it. Another popular sight are the Weekend Markets which take place every Saturday and Sunday.
Brisbane Forest Park - This large bushland is a popular spot for tourists and city dwellers alike. The start is located just 10km from the city centre making it within easy access. You can obtain camping and hiking trail information from the Forest Park information centre located at the Park entrance.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary - This popular attracted is located just 35 minutes from the city centre. It is located on a beautiful piece of land alongside the river, and is home to approximately 130 Koalas, in addition to many native Australian animals.
City Botanic Gardens - These beautiful gardens located on Albert Street are a nice treat when you want to escape the city life for just awhile. It is located along the river and there are plenty of walking areas to see the area. There are also free tours running at 11am and 1pm Tuesday to Saturday.
Mt Coot-tha Reserve - Located just a short drive from the city is the Mt Coot-tha Reserve. This large bush and parkland has a popular botanic garden, a planetarium, and an excellent view of the city via the Samuel Griffith Drive.
River Cruises - The River Queen offers River Cruises in restored wooden paddle-steamers. There are various cruises to choose from with options such as lunch, tea and snacks, or a dinner.
Sciencentre - Located at 110 George Street the Sciencentre is pleasantly interactive and will keep people of all ages entertained.
Queensland Cultural Centre - Located in South Bank just over the Victoria Bridge connecting the CBD. You can easily stop in at the Queensland Museum with a various range of exhibits showcasing the history of Queensland. Another option is the Queensland Art Gallery where admission is free and you can browse the various art collections on display.
Brisbane Markets - There are various Markets that take place within Brisbane. The Crafts Village Market is on every Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday in South Bank at the Stanley St Plaza. There is also the Riverside Centre Market and Eagle St Pier Market, which takes place every Sunday with over 150 various stalls. The Brunswick Street Markets in Fortitude Valley are on every Saturday and Sunday, and the King George Square Contemporary Craft & Art Market is also on every Sunday.
