What is a Senior Alarm?

Kathy Foust
A senior alarm is an alarm made for senior citizens to keep on their person. It is much more convenient than having to carry around a telephone, trying to get to a phone, or trying to find help in some other way during times of medical crisis. The alarm enables the individual to access medical help on an as needed basis, 24 hours a day. At the same time, seniors can enjoy a sense of freedom and safety without having to worry about accessing medical staff or help on top of having to worry about their own medical issues as well.

Thousands of elderly people each year suffer from medical conditions that are made worse due to the fact that they were not able to access medical help when needed. For example, if an elderly person feels they are having a heart attack, they may have difficulty calling for help or making it the phone. The senior alarm allows them to access this type of help no matter where they are. This type of device manages to put safety, convenience and affordability all together to protect people that are advanced in age, yet still require a sense of independence.

Naturally, there are some things to look for when a person is considering the purchase of a senior alarm and its service. Finding the right provider is vital to making the most out of this service. The alarm should be able to alert medical providers and emergency personnel in the owner's area. It should come from a company that is registered with the Better Business Bureau and has little if any complaints. It should also be affordable and convenient, allowing for freedom of movement without draining the pocket book. The alarm should also come from a company that has shown its devotion and concern to the senior population.

In short, a senior alarm should be bought from a reputable company so that you can be sure your loved ones are safe when you aren't there to watch over them. What more could you ask for?

Kathy has provided a great summary and advice on selecting a senior alarm. One additional point that all potential customers should consider is the monitoring center that is being used. Look for companies such as ours (http://www.lifestation.com) with their own UL Listed monitoring center.
