What you should and shouldn't do after a car accident

A car accident can leave you feeling scared and alone. We all have been involved in an accident one time or another. It is a stressful time for everyone concerned. Accidents do happen and happen more often than we realize. It can be less stressful and hostile if you follow these simple tips.

Yelling. Yelling at the other person will not get you anywhere. It will only cause more trouble in the long run. Raising your voice may seem like a good idea at the time, but it isn't. In the heat of the moment, you can't always control your temper. You can at least try. Be careful to watch how you speak to the other people involved. It won't be easy but it can be done.

Stay calm. This is easier said than done. The calmer you are after an accident, the less stress you may feel at the time. Calm is the key word dealing with anything involving something hostile. Car accident scenes are hostile environments and require you to stay calm as much as possible. If you are feeling yourself getting overly upset, take deep even breaths.

Gather information. This is ideal for anyone. You will need this information to file a claim with your car insurance company as well as the police department. Any information will be helpful, even if it is just their first and last name. You can easily find the rest out later.

Take photographs. Believe it or not this is something all drivers need to do when involved in a car accident. Even if it is a slight fender bender, you need to take photos. Photographs says it all. From personal experience I had photographs taken of my last accident, and it helped wonders. It didn't help give me a new car, however it proved I wasn't at fault for what happened.

Violence. This is never the answer. It will not change the accident or how it happened. It will only cause more damage than good. Swinging and threats of violence doesn't solve anything. Violence can include anything from yelling, to throwing punches or objects.

The aftermath of a car accident can last for a very long time. The circumstances surrounding an accident varies from accident to accident. No one acts the same. You have to be prepared for anything that can happen.
