My cousin gave birth to a beautiful baby girl almost a year and a half ago. It was her very first child so to say that this was an extremely thrilling time for her and her husband is an understatement. She gave me some information in regards to food during a pregnancy.

Any woman who is pregnant knows that not only must she eat healthy for herself but she must do this for her baby as well. Everything that you will be taking in, your baby will be taking in as well. Fruits and vegetables including spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes and peas are good to eat during a pregnancy. They will help to give you energy and can aid in helping eyesight along with allowing the baby's bones to grow. Milk is an excellent source for calcium when you are pregnant and even when you are not!

It is important to consume protein when you are pregnant. This helps in producing cells. Some foods that are high in protein can include beans, poultry or fish. Peanuts are a must to consume because it helps the baby's brain develop. A good amount is half a cup of nuts or peanuts or four teaspoons of peanut butter a day.

It's quite normal for a pregnant woman to crave foods that are cold such as frozen dessert like ice cream. This is due in part because sometimes the temperature of a pregnant woman goes up. Some women might desire sweets like candy or cookies when they are pregnant. This might be a mistake if consumed in large amounts as it can lead the baby to becoming overweight and also can cause the woman to have a cesarean section prior to giving birth. You can always have those delicious sweets after your baby is born. It might just take a little longer for the baby weight to drop.

It's always important to drink plenty of water during a pregnancy. This helps to replace the water that is lost through sweating or frequent urination. A woman will urinate more when she is pregnant than when she is not.

Be careful what you are consuming while you are pregnant. Meat that is undercooked along with deli meat should not be eaten. Alcohol of course is a big no-no because there could be physical problems with your baby down the road. It's extremely unsafe and you should never take the risk.

Whatever you decide to eat during a pregnancy, it's very important to consult with your doctor first to know exactly what you should be eating so you can ensure that you will have a healthy baby.
