What Size Are You Really?

Do Your Clothes Fit?

Nancy Austin
Busty? How low cut is is too much? Suppose you're not large chested. Can you get away with a revealing top? The answer might shock you and come as a relief if you're not the most endowed. Firm fitting women's cut t-shirts are the current long running trend. Back in the eighties we somehow got it into our heads that tight shirts and blouses are made for those who have a lot going on up top. THat's just not true anymore if it ever was true at all. They make the cutest tops for smaller women, but the fashion industry has caught onto reality as far as blouses are concerned. It's not too hard anymore to find sexy tops made for a busty woman. When choosing a top think like a man. Before purchasing check out the bustline. Seams should cup or hug a woman's breasts. Thin women with a bra size larger than a C cup might want to consider that your blouse size doesn't always match your pant size and there's no shame in a good fit. For example a woman who wears a size five in bottoms may present herself more sensably in a size eleven top if she needs a D cup.

The fashion industry sort of flips flops. Out shopping the other day I noticed what people are wearing. Men are getting the right fit. Ladies, some of us are wearing our clothes too tight [more so than ever}. A lot of people complained that full figured women were being left out. A typical size twelve just isn't what it used to be. Bellys are hanging out of low rise jeans. Thongs are showing. Tops are just too short and too tight. This new revolution is not what plus size super heros such as Emme campaigned for. This bare all look is not sexy. The idea is to fit. As American women we're embarrassing ourselves. Not to mention the example being set for young girls isn't faring well. BootyJuice is printed across our backsides. We're sending the message that feeling good about oneself means revealing everything. The whole concept was to have more choices instid of fewer choices. The idea was to represent ourselves as unique
individuals with different body types. I'm not sure we're doing that when size tens are dressing like size fives. This just isn't making sense. A typical size eleven actually consists of less material than it used to. Somebody do something!

Low rise jeans have taken over. Let me tell you friend to friend no one wants to see your underware. Manufactors couldn't sell bad fashion if too many people weren't buying. Hey, it's really o.k. to dress your size. Allow me to rephrase. Please, dress your size.

So, am I telling you that only skinny girls can have all the fun. I'm just not capable of such cruelty. My point is based on logic. If you really want to accept who you are don't try to be someone else. In my opinion letting it all hang out is letting yourself go. The way many people are dressing is just one example of mass hysteria. Can't we be proud of our bodies? When everything is on display[much of which shouldn't be } pride is not on display. The message being sent says hey look at all my fat. Sad, but true. As far as all this fat acceptance goes we should be teaching body image instid. What's the difference? Reality. Girls should grow up with a realistic opinion of themselves. In otherwords your body is beautiful, but not all of us are made the same. We shouldn't try to fit into our skinny friend's clothes. When we pretend to be smaller than we truly are we haven't accepted our bodies.

So, while we're being offered a larger variety in blouses, t-shirts just aren't cutting it. Too tight. The same cut just isn't right for everybody. The best top for a full figured woman at present time is the retro redefined hippy style pull over. The worst is the women's cut t-shirt. If you're tiny this is your fit. If you're busty or heavy set look elsewhere.

As far as hip goes boot cut pants do still come with proper waistlines, but you'll have to do a lot of digging. If you're packing a little extra luggage don't think that a pant should rest anywhere other than on your waist or a bit higher if you so desire.

Stretch pants are trying to come back. Before you stock up listen. There's no guarantee this particular retro trend will last since the public isn't catching on. People don't mind wearing their pants too low so go figure.

Have we gone insane? Who's to blame? The fashion industry heard a cry for self acceptance, but they didn't hear the whole story. This new look just doesn't fit. Back to the drawing board. How about measuring American women? There's an idea with possibilities. Take our measurements and then estimate a little closer to the truth.
