By conserving energy, you are protecting the earth. Many have realized that protecting the earth is essential for the population's survival. We need the earth and its resources to survive but many of us are knowingly or unknowingly abusing the earth's resources. Society has begun to do their part in preserving the earth. By using a wind turbine system to generate electricity, you too can do your part to protect the earth.
Contrary to popular belief, you do not need an elaborate wind turbine system to effectively convert wind into electric for your home. People have been using wind turbine systems for a lot longer than you may have known. In some locations, residents rely one hundred percent on mid-sized wind turbine systems to power their homes and small offices.
For years, wind turbines have been employed in many homes to provide basic electric needs. When they were first used, wind turbine systems worked in combination with a battery located in a distant location such as a village or other rural area. These new wind turbine systems are an improvement to the already existing systems. They also have proved that they are capable of fueling small homes.
Wind turbine systems are connected to a grid. Wind turbines systems that are off-grid may acclimate themselves to irregular energy. Or off-grid systems may use photovoltaic or diesel systems to enhance wind generators.
Small scale wind turbine systems are ideal for urban areas and cities because of the amount of power they produce for such a small statures. Even in urban areas where wind power may be limited, these small wind turbines are capable of powering small homes. They are also ideal for powering small, low voltage appliances. Smaller wind turbines can also be used to collect and provide back-up energy. They distribute energy in the residential structure. Small wind turbines may come as little as four - one hundred watt systems used predominately for homes. Larger wind turbines are used to produce energy for more powerful appliances and structures.
Small size wind turbine systems measure approximately several feet in diameter and generate about nine hundred watts of power. Small wind turbine systems are very light in weight, approximately thirty - to - forty pounds. They are attached to a home similar to a television dish.
Smaller wind turbines systems have a great advantage over larger wind turbine systems. Because of their size, they are less costly to build and install. This theory is known as the "square cube law". Small wind turbine systems are capable of gathering wind in a more accurate and effective manner. The design of a small wind turbine is more basic and less expensive. Since the popularization of wind turbine systems, scientists have done more research in finding the wind's path, how to collect the wind and determining what size wind turbine system works best for a specific location.
Building a large sized wind turbine system would entail more money for research and experience. Currently, small wind turbine systems are more practical, functional and economical for small residences and businesses as well as remote areas. But large size wind turbine systems should not be discounted. As the use of small wind turbine systems increases, the use of larger sized wind turbine systems will exhibit their effectiveness.
