What Are the Skills Needed to Become an Effective Manager?

If you decide to become a manager then you have a number of industries from which to choose. To become effective as a manager then you need to have the ability to lead other people. To have to have the ability to communicate the goals and objectives as well as the mission of the company to employees that you supervise.
As a manager you will probably need an Associates degree in management and depending on the company you work for the requirement could be a Bachelors degree in management.

Leadership skills

As a manager you need excellent leadership skills. You have to be able to lead by example. Everything that you do counts including the way you communicate, your personality, and how you interact with others. Even the way you dress helps to portray your leadership skills.

Attitude

As a manager you have to have a positive attitude day in and day out. Managers need to be able to keep an up beat attitude. An attitude of this sort entices others to want to work for you.

Manage

Managers need to manage the day to day operations within their department. Sometimes managers need to watch expenses to make sure they don't get out of hand.

Plan

Planning is another skill that managers will need to develop so that they can continue to oversee the operations.

Delegate

Managers have to delegate authority and responsibility from time to time even though they are ultimately responsible for the results.

Coordinate

An effective manager must be able to coordinate all of the activities that take place within their department.

Communication skills

As a manager you need to be an effective communicator which includes written and verbal. Almost daily you will need to communicate with your employees and sometimes upper management. Managers need to write letters every as well and your writing skills need to be up to par.

Managers need to have the ability to relate to a variety of different people. The goals and objectives of the organization is very important and sometimes managers are required to relay those goals in a passionate manner to the team. Managers need to be able to motivate and inspire people. Another quality of managers is their ability to develop the people that he manages. They have to be able to develop people to the point where they are able to be promoted or at the very least take on larger tasks and responsibilities and ultimately moving the company towards its goals and objectives.
