You know that a healthy uterus is important for conception and having a baby. So, if your uterus is slanted - or tipped - will this impact your ability to have children? We will explore this question as well as more information about a slanted uterus here so that you can become informed about this condition.

Does a Slanted Uterus Cause Symptoms?

If your uterus is slanted, you may or may not experience symptoms. Pain during your menstrual period or sexual intercourse are the most common symptoms. There are other possible symptoms as well. These may include minor incontinence, problems with your fertility, back pain during intercourse, urinary tract infections and trouble using tampons.

Can a Slanted Uterus Cause Infertility?

Experts now believe that a slanted uterus itself does not contribute to infertility. However, certain causes of this condition may cause infertility. For example, endometriosis is one of the causes of this condition and it may also contribute to infertility. So, it seems that the position of the uterus does not contribute to infertility, but some reasons behind while it is oddly positioned could possibly lead to infertility.

How Will My Healthcare Provider Determine if I Have a Slanted Uterus?

In most cases, your healthcare provider will simply perform a physical exam and then do a pelvic exam. From these he or she will be able to determine if you uterus is slanted or not. If you feel that you may have a slanted uterus, talk to your healthcare provider, so that he or she can perform the proper testing, and if you do have it, discuss your options with you.

Do I Need Treatment for a Slanted Uterus?

If you are having symptoms, your healthcare provider may recommend some form of treatment for you. There is a surgery that can be performed to reposition the uterus and this can often decrease how much pain you experience during your menstrual period and sexual intercourse.

An exercise known as knee-chest may be helpful for some women with this condition. It only helps to reposition your uterus temporarily though, so this is not a permanent solution. Also, if endometriosis, pelvic infections or fibroid tumors were the cause of your slanted uterus, this exercise will be ineffective.

A pessary is a small device made of either silicone or plastic that may help to reposition your slanted uterus. It is placed in your vagina. Long-term use could possibly result in vaginal infections, so this is almost always recommended as a temporary solution to you if you are experiencing pelvic pain.
