Socialism has taken different meanings, depending on the varying philosophies which it postulates. The three main forms of socialism are:
The Marxist socialism: This emphasizes on communal ownership and control of means of production, distribution and exchange by the Government.
Christian Socialism: This brands Socialism as a way of life so that a classless society is created. Christian Socialism believes in the concept of Cooperation; community owns both land and capital. The same is used for the good of every one through cooperation of the mass.
Democratic Socialism: This form of Socialism emphasizes that the means of production are owned by the community and the political power are vested with the people through a democratic state.
Dictionary describes 'Socialism' as contributing for the good of the community and being cared by the community. From a careful reading of the different forms of Socialism, it can be concluded that 'Socialism' is nothing but 'communism.'
Basic ideology of Socialism:
The basic ideology of 'Socialism' is that economy should be in the hands of the working class or what could be called as common ownership and a classless society. It means that the means of production is also under the principles of common ownership. This principles is nothing but utopian. 'Socialists' or 'communists' for that matter always woo students and the jobless or innocent people. Without assessing the reality, these innocent persons fall into the trap of communism. The concept of classless society is never practicable. This creates hatred between the rich and the poor. People are trapped into the biased hands of the government machinery and they are at their mercy.
The second utopia is that human wants can be satisfied. This completely negates the very fundamental principles of economics. There cannot be more utopian concept than this.
Why people rejected 'Socialism':
From a birds eye view, Socialism looks very attractive, but it is basically antihuman. Way back in 1932, many writers had had warned fall of communism because destruction of individual liberty is just 'totalitarian' or 'communist' concept. True to the predictions, communism dithered in the recent past because there was no motivation of any sort. There was no encouraging participation either by the workers or by the entrepreneurs. Because, whatever is done is remunerated based on the principle of distribution. A Scientist is paid the salary of an ordinary worker. Motivation suffers heavily. Only the informers were remunerated because the top brass could retain their thumb rule.
