What Soldiers Deserve

They Serve for Us All

In today's society as well as in the past the majority of the United States populace does not agree with the state of war at which we find ourselves. Not agreeing with government policy as well as speaking out against it is one of the freedoms we enjoy. Unfortunately, war is a big part of why we have those freedoms. Our founding fathers went to war for all of our freedoms.

The people who actually fight for our country are men and woman who serve in the many branches of our military. This is their choice, for unlike many countries we have the choice. Those who serve leave behind their families, friends and civilian lives in order to board a troop transport or ship and sail or fly across vast oceans and hostile territories in order to bring freedom to places who have none and to keep our own borders safe from military and terrorist forces. They live and work for months at a time with the treat of snipers, IED, and ambush. Thousands die and leave only the memory of who they were and what they stood for behind for us to remember.

A part of our society today lobby and picket to bring our soldiers home but what a lot do not do is think of how it is for those soldier once they return home. The war for them does not stop once they are back on home soil. They still fight in their memories and dreams. So these soldiers walk around and listen to people complain about their being there. How do people think that makes them feel? They hear a person saying what they did was wrong that soldiers should never have been there.

Yes, the treatment soldiers receive today is better than it was after they came home from Vietnam. A soldier no longer has garbage and curses thrown at them but is this any better.

One solution to this is something I have seen and heard often if you see; some one who has served thank them for their service. Right now, it is mostly ex-soldiers or families of soldiers but soldiers do not just serve for their families they serve for all our citizens and all citizens should thank them.
