What Are Some Common Container Gardening Problems?

If you are doing container gardening, you are going to run into problems at one point in time or another. While there are general rules to follow that will help with these issues, at times you can't avoid all problems since these are plants that you are working with. Learn what some of the common problems are and what you can do about them.

The first issue many run into is giving the plant enough water but still noticing that the plant in the container is still dying. There are two mistakes that you are likely making here. First of all, make sure that you have drainage holes in the bottom of the container so that the water can drain out. Secondly, make sure the soil isn't packed so tightly that the water can't get out.

Sometimes you notice that you have spots on the plants especially the leaves. This can be caused by a few issues. Make sure it's not a pest problem. The container might be in a place that is too cool for that type of plant. Your plant might also be getting too much direct sunlight and needs to be removed.

If you have some containers that just don't seem to be growing well, it's likely a soil problem. Make sure that you either fertilize the soil better or get a richer soil that has more nutrients in it. This will improve the quality of what you grow in containers.

If your plant looks sick with dying leaves and even powdery ones, it's like that the plant has some sort of fungus. Be sure to move this one away from other containers. If it's not grown too much, get rid of it to reduce the chance of this sickness going to other plants.

If your plant is suddenly dying, it's likely the container is too small. Transplant it to a larger container to help.
