THE PRINCIPLE AND TECHNOLOGY OF HOW A SONOGRAM WORKS.
Sonogram technology is very safe because, unlike X rays it does not include the use of radiation. Instead this technology uses high frequency sound waves. Hence it is safe for the unborn child.
Gel is placed on the abdomen or area to be examined. The gel acts as a conductor for the sound waves to the area.
A transducer, a tool that looks like a wand is used to glide along the gelled area of the body to be examined.
The sound waves are introduced into the body.
These sound waves bounce off bones and tissues in the area of the body being probed.
The information returns to the transducer and is fed into the computer.
A computerized black and white picture of the area of the body being examined will appear on the specialized screen.
ADVANTAGES OF A SONOGRAM
There are many advantages to the use of the sonogram.
It may be used to diagnose tubal or ectopic pregnancies at an early stage to ensure the mother's health and safety. Ectopic pregnancy is the number one cause of death of women in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Multiple pregnancies can be detected this will enable the parents to plan ahead for the care their babies.
Pelvic bleeding can be detected so that early emergency medical care can be administered.
Results of the sonogram can be seen immediately on the monitor. This is of great advantage in making a quick diagnosis.
Birth defects can be detected in the unborn child.
Some parents take advantage of the sonogram results to determine the sex of their unborn child.
The sonogram is another advance tool in medical science and technology that provides vital information to health care professionals and their patients in making wise decisions regarding health care choices. In addition the sonogram is a tool that is painless, comfortable and safe.
With advanced technology the health care system offers many new opportunities to expand ones career choices. A Sonographer or Ultra Sound Technician is a good choice.
