WHAT is SPIRITAULITY? Part 1

Spirituality Comes from the Latin Root of SPIRITUS, Meaning Breath

Spider Lady
Spirituality comes from the Latin root of SPIRITUS, meaning breath. Spirit is the ever reverent animating present force that breathes a feeling of significance into the living being and daily life. In Eastern philosophy is called "Qi", in the West we often referred to it as "Light." In the book of Genesis the first thing that God created was Light. It is an energy that radiates life is not present in cancer cells or in death.

Without breath our being ceases. Spirit is the vessel of our likeness to our Creator. Spirit is frequently distinguished from body, mind and will but actually abides deep within all three. Spirit is the energy animating, indispensable property often associated with the metaphysical, supernatural, a Higher Power, Supreme Being, Divine Energy or God. "And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered." (The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran.) Before the creation of the world (and time), God knew each of us. We were one with the Father. He created us to be in his image and that image was Spirit (Light.). During the stream of creation we fell asleep and believed we had separated from God. But our Spirits cannot be separated because His breath is His creation.

"God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:27) "The Lord God formed man from the dust of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became living being." (Genesis 2:7.) When we breathe in air we exist in the likeness the Lord God created man to be.

Air is a liquid. In order to live in the flow of life we must circulate air through our lungs. When we breathe too shallowly our bodies become more solid and we begin to feel weighed down. Then everything in life takes more effort. When we breathe fully our bodies heat the air lifting our spirits as the warmed air rises. Without a good flow of air the gases in our lungs, they press down and cause stress. The more we breathe the more our bodies use airs fluid quality to change shape. The more oxygen we direct to our brains, the more energy we can tap into to shape the other areas of our lives. We must take in air in order to consciously connect with God. We also take in atoms that have circulated in the lungs of Christ, Buddha, Mother Teresa and all the Saints. We can connect in spirit to the positive charge of those atoms, and affirm that energy to be connected to our Higher Being.
