What States Are Suing Over the Health Care Bill? a List

Blair Mathis
Though the health care bill has passed through the House and is to be signed by President Obama today, the battle to stomp it into the ground is still in full effect. Attorney Generals in ten states have announced their plans to collectively file a lawsuit against the health care reform bill, challenging it as being unconstitutional by placing a mandatory burden on the tax payers, as well as a huge financial burden on the states.

With so much news published lately on the health care reform, it is difficult to find a simple list of the states planning on filing lawsuit, and that is why I've put this article together. Below are a list of the ten states planning to sue over the health care bill.

Nebraska

Alabama

North Dakota

Pennsylvania

South Carolina

South Dakota

Florida

Utah

Washington

Texas

*Virginia

The position held is that this is not about politics, but instead about challenging something is unconstitutional and that many people do not want. When signed into law, the health care reform bill will for citizens to have health insurance or penalize them in the form of a hefty tax burden.

"This is a tax or a penalty on just living, and that's unconstitutional," said Attorney General McCollum on why his state, Florida, will be filing a lawsuit. "There's no provision in the Constitution of the United States giving Congress the power to do that."

He also indicates that the health care reform bill is too great of a financial burden: "There's no way we can do what's required in this bill and still provide for education, for foster care, for the incarceration of prisoners, all the other things that are in this bill."

Once the health care reform bill is taken to court, it could be a long while before we see the results. Eventually the lawsuit is going to be taken to the Supreme Court, where it will ultimately be decided if it is Constitutional or not.

*Virginia is on the line about whether or not the state will file a lawsuit independently or with the other ten states. More info will be available soon.

How do you know that people don't want the health care that is on the table. Did you speak to all the people in the US? What about the ones that don't have insurance, or the citizens that have lost their homes due to high medical bills. I feel our politicians are idiots and don't really know what the people want. They don't want to follow a minority to secure health coverage for every one.
