Symptoms
The first thing that you will notice if you have a sty is the red lump around your eye area. It will feel very painful. Since the lump is so close to your eye, you may experience a watery eye from the one that is affected. Your eye may also feel grainy and gritty. The area around the lump will feel sore.
Do Not
The number one thing not to do when having a sty is to squeeze it. Do not play with it. The sty usually gets bigger as time goes by, and it fills up with infectious pus. If you squeeze the sty it will pop, and the infection will spread. You do not want the infection to spread because it can lead to bigger problems.
Home Treatment
When you get a sty you can try home treatment if your doctor recommends it. Home treatment of a sty is pretty easy. Take a wash cloth, and soak it in warm water. Wring out the wash cloth. Then put it on the eye with the sty on it. Keep it on the eye for at least 15 minutes. Repeat with a new wash cloth every time at least 3 times a day until the eye sty lump goes down.
Doctor
If your eye sty is bad enough, your doctor may want to see you in the doctor's office. Your doctor may give you some antibiotic medicine for your eye sty. The doctor may also drain the eye sty in a professional way. Sometimes the puss may be tested to see what kind of infection you have. Always call the doctor if you are concerned about your eye sty.
My Experience
I have had an eye sty before. It was very irritating to have. I usually took a pain reliever to help with the pain of the lump of the sty. Then I always did hot compresses with the wash cloths. It took a couple days, but the sty always went down on its own. The important thing is to not touch your eye sty and to let it drain by itself.
