What is it About the Sun?

Linda Louise Johnson
What is it about the sun

that warms me

all the way to my heart?

What is it about the sun

that makes my soul sing,

bouyant with hope again?

And stirs up expectation

like green shoots

peeking above the ground

after a long winter.

What is about the sun

whose rays glance off

the thawing lake

making sparkles

that dance in our eyes?

Cajoling, warming

even the cold roots hiding

deep underground,

promising them new life.

Playing, sending patterns

of the window pane

crisscrossed on the rug

Dazzling, glancing off

the crystal on the shelf

making diamonds in the air

Beaming, throwing

its golden aspect

over all the cares of winter

softening troubles

and warming possibilities.

Loving, shining

light from God

into our lives.

What is it about the sun?

I just hope we see more sun this year than we did last year.

The sun can be a mystery, but you are right. There is definately something about the sun. Like the Beatles said: "Here comes the Sun"

I left work the other day and thought "what on earth is that big bright yellow thing in the sky?". It's nice to see the sun again. I love the sunshine.

Nice poem. We have lost the sun for the past few days, but the temperatures are starting to hit 60, so I'll enjoy that for a while as the flowers start coming up through the ground freshly watered by the melted snow!
