What is Tagfoot?

A Unique Social Bookmarking and Networking Hybrid

Cheryl Hedlund
Tagfoot is a new site with a lot of potential. It is a hybrid social networking and bookmarking site with lots of features. Tagfoot also offers revenue sharing opportunities. You can set the privacy options to every item that you add, posting that you make, and comment that you add.

You do not need to add yet another toolbar to clutter your browser in order to use the site. Most Tagfoot features are available without downloading a tool to your browser. There is a "sidefoot" sidebar that you can add and does allow you to use the "my rss foot" to follow conversations in comments. The sidefoot also includes "tubefoot", a customized music feed of YouTube videos. You can set the filters to the kind of music that you like.

Organize and share your bookmarks. It is easy to import them from your browser. I recommend that you import them all as "private" and go back later at your leisure to change the setting on the bookmarks that you want displayed publicly.

Currently there is an active revenue sharing program with Google Adsense. You must have your own Adsense account. After submitting your Adsense information to Tagfoot and getting it approved, they will show 50% of their ads and 50% of your Adsense ads. There are also other revenue sharing programs in the works.

Tagfoot is developing and the community is growing, so there are occasional glitches. I have not had any major problems. Tagfoot is not as intuitive or as streamlined as other social sites. There is definitely a learning curve. It takes time to try out and explore different aspects of the site. The upside is that they are asking for user input and respond to suggestions. Tagfoot staff is working hard to communicate with the community about updates and to make improvements.

You can share new sites you find with friends or write a blogish note (maximum 500 characters) in the "news" section. These microblog posts are called "footnotes". When you are ready to send, select all or some of your friends. It is important to tag your friends appropriately because you can send to groups by tag name. Like everything else, you can also make certain footnotes private or readable by friends or only selected friends. The default setting is public and everyone will be able to read your news through your profile page or on the most recent "footsteps".

Tagfoot is one more great place to network with other writers and politely promote your content. Add links to your articles in your bookmarks. Share your articles through the news feature with your friends. As always, be careful to send articles to the people who are interested in the topic. It is easy with tagfoot because of the tags. Everyone can add "self-tags" to their profile, like "music, associated content, writing". When you add a friend you can keep those tags. This allows you to see what topics they are interested in or organizations that they belong to.

There are many reasons to join Tagfoot. Since it is in private beta now, you need an invitation. Get in on the ground floor and try out this exciting site. Follow this link and consider yourself cordially invited to the new online community at Tagfoot.
