Outside Wear
Of course bringing a swimming suit is a must. When in Hawaii, water is never far away, and trips to the beach will become a regular occurrence. Also, shorts and t-shirts or loose fitting clothing is a must because you will be outside for most of the time and it will be warm. To accompany your outside clothing, a good pair of sunglasses is recommended. Squinting all day will become tiresome and could give you a headache, not to mention all the direct light would be bad for your eyes.
Protect Your Skin
With all the outdoor activities, it is a good idea to pack sunscreen and lipbalm with spf protection in it. One of the fastest ways to ruin a vacation is forget the sunscreen and sunburn. Just the small investment will keep the vacation fun and enjoyable.
Camera and Other Equipment.
Don't go any any vacation without a camera. The pictures you take will be better then any post card you could buy, because you were actually there, right where the picture was taken. When all the clothing and other souvenirs have faded and worn out, the pictures will always be there.
Along with the camera, bring a pair of binoculars if you have one. With so much to see in Hawaii (especially when on top of one of the volcanoes), binoculars will come in extremely handy.
Water Proof Gear
One of the last things you want to happen is have your electronics or other important valuables drop in the water and become wet and ruined. Bringing a water tight bag to place cameras and other stuff in is highly recommended, as well as waterproof watches.
Maps and Tour Books
Bring along all the maps and books with you of places you want to see and do, that way if you forget on particular event or place you wanted to see, the book can remind you. And maps are extremely helpful when renting a car and driving yourself, these will help prevent getting lost and having to ask for directions.
