An entrepreneur is, first and foremost, a leader. He must have a vision, coupled with the focus and determination to realize this goal. An entrepreneur must like taking charge and making important decisions. He must have the ability to make others understand his business objectives, and make them share this vision and work towards this common aspiration.
Moreover, an entrepreneur must constantly be brimming with outrageous ideas and is willing to take the risk to act on them. Continuous growth of a business entails constant innovations and ventures into unexplored territories. Without new ideas, an enterprise will simply reach a point of stability, stay there for a while, and then eventually die down. A business venture needs an entrepreneur who is comfortable with taking gambles to reap bigger rewards.
While an entrepreneur will benefit most in the expansion of his business, he should also be ready to endure difficult times and take the blame if mistakes are made. He should be ready to acknowledge bad decisions he has made, and should avoid the habit of constantly blaming others..
A successful businessperson also has to be competitive. He must not be content with second place, but must at all times strive to be on top. He has to be aggressive, ready to bite off from the competitor's market. If you cringe at the thought of taking some of your rival's share of the consumers, then entrepreneurship might not be the right thing for you.
An entrepreneur also needs to be passionate and full of energy. He must have utmost commitment to his work, and belief that the business objectives can be achieved. He/she must be able to infuse this passion into his/her partners and employees. This sense of dedication must be coupled with a high level of energy. An entrepreneur must be willing to work more than the usual 8-to-5 office hours. He should be ready to run from place to place, and do all sorts of tasks, from brainstorming to handling clients to doing the manual work.
A businessperson must be organized. As he will be handling a variety of different responsibilities, especially when the business is at the start-up stage, he/she must not get lost in the mountains of things that need to be done. He/she must exhibit grace under pressure, and demonstrate an ability to handle all kinds of demands.
If you have all these qualities of an entrepreneur, then go ahead! Start up that dream business, and make it flourish, with persistent passion and constant flow of ideas.
