What is the Tea Party Movement?

Jacqueline Winslow
As the country continues to struggle with hard economic times, more and more people are leaving both the Republican and Democratic parties to become a Tea Party Supporter. Some are staying with their party, but calling themselves Tea Party Supporters. What is this Tea Party Movement that we are hearing so much about on the news and in the media?

The Tea Party Supporters are very calm, normal Americans. They are a conglomerate of every American. We not have to agree on every issue, only the basis of our country. What we are founded on, so to speak. Tea Party Supporters represent normal Americans standing up for what they believe in. Of course, with ever action comes a counter-action. The media often distorts the image of who Tea Party Supporters are. Who they are; what they stand for; instead of who these normal Americans.

Why does the Media love talking about the tea Party?

The problem is that speaking up about your beliefs isn't the norm in this country. Allowing our Politicians to wreak havoc with our country has become the thing to do, or at least, not speaking up. We elect them, and then they can do and say what they want. If you wonder how true this is, think about all the ear marks put into bills to ensure that the bill passes. Most Americans would balk at the thought of wasteful spending in their own lives but somehow when it comes to Politicians, they seem to think they are off limits.

Not any longer! Americans all over the country are speaking up. If you think it is only Tea Party Supporters, you would be wrong. Democrats are also speaking up against the insane spending of our current President of the Unites States, President Obama; whether they chose to support the Tea Party Movement or not, they still are speaking up.

You see, for years we've wanted Democrats and Republicans to actually come together and make changes together. Too many years have passed without seeing this really happen. What we are finding is that Tea Party Supporters will go after Republican and Democrats alike to speak up on what they want to happen in this country. The reason is that more Americans are wondering when Washington is going to wake up and listen to the people. Wake up Washington!

What is the Tea Party Movement?

Back in 2009, as we continue to see very big changes in America, more and more Americans began speaking out their feelings about the changes. Tea Party Supporters aren't only protesting about new Federal laws put in place by President Obama but also by the changes he has put in place which is changing the shape of our country.

Let's get right down to the facts of what the Tea Party wants from our government.

• Every law needs to be verified with the Constitution to validate that Congress can in fact create such a law.

• Taxes need to be decreased in order for our economy to turn around.

• Earmarks have no place in any Law or Bill created in Washington.

• Limit the federal spending so that annually they can only increase spending by a certain amount.

• A Balanced Federal Budget is required ASAP.

• Repealing the health care legislation is needed ASAP.

• Free Markets.

Of course, that is just a brief overview of some of the changes Tea Party Supporters. The truth is that you will see much written about the Tea Party Movement but until you actually talk to these supporters, you won't realize that they are normal, middle class Americans.

Small business owners are concerned by the inability to get loans. Their sales are down due to the economy. Americans of every class are worried about our future. It is that reason the Tea Party continues to grow. With job loss at an all-time high, many believe that it takes each person to create change.

Boston Tea Party

Taxes have been a problem throughout our American History. Remember the Boston Tea Party of 1778?

Colonists were sick of the Crown's attempt to tax the tea and they soon revolted. The colonist got sick of being told what to do, and that they had to pay unnecessary taxes to Parliament. The similarities to what is going on in our country now are amazing.

The Colonist from the Boston Tea Party got up enough courage to stand up and fight for their American Independence. They could no longer sit by and let their lives be dictated. They took drastic measures. They dumped the tea in to the harbor.

In the same way, normal Americans have risen up to say, "No," to Washington. No more waste less spending, no insane spending... it is time to stop Washington. They do this by meeting in rally's, going to Washington, sending letters to Washington, and most of all, letting their voice be heard.

Whether we believe the same way they do or not, the key is that they are getting people talking. They began talking about the issues, AND about Washington.
