Your first thought might be to just lay down the law about these types of clothes, when it comes to your teen and fashion trends. Being that you're a parent, this is your right to speak up about this matter. However, do you realize that you might be doing more harm than good? Do you recall how it was when you were a teen? I do and I also recall that the last thing I wanted to hear from my parents was how to dress. The same thing is probably true for your teenager as well. That is the reason that you might want to consider taking a different plan of attack.
One of the examples where you should definitely talk to your teenagers about their fashion choices is if what they are wearing might wind up causing them damage of some sort.
As I earlier stated, some of the most modern fashion trends for girls and women are low rise jeans and low cut blouses. This frequently ends up allowing a good part of the body uncovered. In today's culture, you constantly want to be on guard for sexual vultures. Even though your teen may not necessarily be attracted to another person, that person may end up thinking that your teen is attracted to them. This may possibly put your teen in a peculiar and perhaps unsafe position. You may want to take the time to clarify this to your teenager, if this is the case. Your teen would probably understand it better than you just saying "you cannot wear that; go change your clothes."
It is essential that you and your teen both keep in mind that fashion trends frequently change. Usually, a fashion trend only lasts for a few months. If your teen really likes the current fashion styles, but you don't, you might want to suggest to them to look into other alternatives. There are tons of online fashion websites and fashion magazines that have information on current fashion trends and also information on those trends. Not every fashion style necessitates the wearing of sparse outfits. That is the motive to search for other alternatives. Additionally, if your teen is a girl, the adventure could in reality turn into a great mother daughter bonding event among the two of you.
Another thing that you might not have thought about, but should, is if you teenager goes to high school. Numerous high schools have dress codes that frequently forbid the wearing of scanty clothes. Many high schools aggressively implement these dress codes, although some do not. Just like teens do not like being told what to wear by their parents, many teens get infuriated by being told the same by school officials. With that rationale in mind, you might want to take a firm hand before anything critical occurs that could dangerously put your teen or their school records in danger. It is very common to hear of occurrences where teenagers have been suspended from school because they did not follow the school's dress code.
To sum it up, fashion and teens are things that just seem to click together. Even though it is imperative for your teen to be well-liked and fit in with others at their school, they do not really have to be wearing the "hottest" fashion accessories or clothing to do so. They probably won't understand this at the time, but as a mom or dad it is your job to assist them and keep them free from harm.

Post a CommentI regret not having become a fashion designer. I could do so much better than the so-called designers for teens and children nowadays, I really could.
Good advice. I feel so lucky that my teenage girl also thinks the fashion trends are immodest. She's been homeschooled up til now and is going to high school next year - a school with a great dress code, thankfully!
I have a baby girl and will surely want her to be not so showy when she gets older.
Excellent article
Absolutely! Our children may not understand it, but we're just trying to protect them. Excellent job with this.
This is a great topic and you covered it beautifully. :-)
Good tips.
my grandmother laid down the law on clothing and I was the laughing stock of the school, I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
Good tips - my oldest girl is 9 and prefers modest dress but I know that may not last forever *crosses fingers and prays*
I'm so glad I have a boy! And one that doesn't care about fashion. As long as it's clean and not torn up, he's fine.
