What to Get Your Teen for Christmas

Teen Gift Ideas

Selecting a Christmas gift for a teenaged girl or boy is easier said than done. You'll find yourself walking the aisles of your local Wal Mart muttering to yourself about how you can never keep up with the latest year's trends. There is no secret to choosing a gift for a teen, every person is different, and everyone has different tastes. Whether they enjoy reading, playing video games or science, there's always something out there for them.

1. Movie Tickets

I can't recall ever meeting someone that doesn't enjoy a good movie fresh at the box office. Movie tickets are better than giving DVDs; it leaves the choosing up to the teen.

2. Gift Cards/Certificates

Gift cards are another great way to leave the ultimate choice up to the teen. Just make sure you give them one for a store they enjoy shopping at.

3. Electronics

Being in the 21st century, electronics are extremely popular and common among younger generations. Children are brought up around TVs, iPods, CDs, Playstations, etc. You won't ever go wrong with gifting a new video game console or mp3 player to your teen, boys and girls alike.

If your teen already has an MP3 player or game console, they will probably really enjoy receiving the latest video game or a gift card for song downloads.

4. Clothes

Teenagers love getting new clothes, but they usually don't like spending their own money on them. If you've noticed your teen eyeing a new sweater from American Eagle, or those super hot jeans from Hollister, they'll be authentically pleased if they unwrap it on Christmas morning.

If you've put it in their mind that you'll be having a huge Christmas this year, then you better live up to it and actually have a big Christmas (otherwise you may disappoint). It's better to tell a teen that you'll be enjoying a small Christmas, and that there won't be as many or as expensive of presents as the previous years before. This way, if you do decide to get them that super expensive gift or something they were really hoping to get but didn't think they would, you'll surprise them and exceed their expectations.

When selecting a gift, make sure that the person you're giving it to can use it. You wouldn't want some useless item sitting on their desk collection dust. If you just can't find anything that your teen will like or can use, you could consider giving cash. If you do choose to give cash, it may not seem like you wanted to put effort into choosing a gift, although most teens will appreciate it.

No matter what you choose to get your teen for Xmas, they will be thankful anyways, even if they don't show it.
