What Text Abbreviations Mean to Me

Antoinette McGowan
There is a lot on the internet that explains what text messaging abbreviations mean. Plenty of articles have been written on the subject. I wanted to take the time to break down the texting abbreviations and let you see what these text abbreviations actually mean to me.

When I see abbreviations my mind does not simple input what the actually meaning of these abbreviations really are. No my mind works differently and spouts off some off the wall stupidity that when I say them out loud has people around me staring.

BRB:

Now the abbreviation BRB is suppose to stand for be right back. I know this but I still can not help it that my brain inputs something else. When I see the abbreviation BRB what really jumps into my head is that the person typing it is really saying Bath Room Break. Yep that one fits better than be right back does in my head.

BFF:

This abbreviation is suppose to mean Best Friend Forever. My mind does not seem to catch that one either. So when I see the abbreviation BFF, instantly Big Farting Fool comes to mind. So this has me typing back to the person wanting to know why she is calling me a Big Farting Fool. My best friend is left completely confused.

J/K:

This one is suppose to mean Just Kidding. But once again when I see this one I do not see what they are meaning. Instead my mind instantly pictures John Kennedy. So I am left sitting there wondering what a dead president has to do with what we were talking about. For that one I guess I will never know but people seem to think that the dead president fits into any topic.

J/P:

This abbreviation is suppose to mean Just Playing. But with my complex mind is trying to figure out why they are talking about Judas Priest. So here we are now talking about a rock band but I don't see why they are making mention of a rock band anymore than I seen why they insist on talking about a dead president.

This is just to name a few of the text abbreviations that are out there and how they seem to really screw with my complex mind. So while the world around me is going on happily texting and understanding these seemingly simple texts, I fear I will never grasp the true meaning of it all.
