What Do I Do with These Business Cards I Collected?

Business Card Tips for Network Marketers

Debra Brown
If you're a network marketer you're upline (sponsor, enroller, etc.) is probably telling you to collect business cards and then call those people. That's well and good, but what do you say to those people on the business card?

Let's back up a little and make sure you've done the first steps in network marketing.

1. Listen to all the training calls

2. Attend meetings

Why do you want to do those two steps? Because in network marketing you are going to run into people that will prejudge what you are doing and let you know about it. Never mind that they have not used the products or operated a network marketing business - they still have an opinion! Often that opinion comes from your friends and family and they might be telling you it will never work. Surround yourself with like minded people -- those that are already doing the business! It keeps your confidence up and prepares you for your job.

3. Build your contact list.
What's a contact list? Everyone you know! Did you know when you die at least 200 people will attend your funeral? Why not talk to them before you die? Your contact list is not a one-time thing, it's a living breathing entity.
Your contact list is your 'Confidence list'. If there are not enough names on your list to make your next level, your confidence is shaken and you might lose them

So who should be on your contact list? Every good network marketer will keep a growing contact list! Here's some ideas on how to build it.

-Go through yellow pages: barber, dentist, educator etc.

-High school yearbook

-Christmas card lists

-Wedding lists

-People you already do business with. The people I do consistent business with - I'm giving them money every month. If their goods and services are good enough to support regularly, my business ought to be good enough to at least hear about. This is what you say to these people. "Hey insurance guy - we just opened up a new business and I've done business with you for xx years. I'd appreciate some time to sit down and show you want we are doing."

-Don't prejudge. Approach successful people - they are successful because they are open to new business ideas.

-Don't think of everyone that needs this the most - you'll get frustrated. Your eagle's list are those that don't need this the most!

All we are doing is looking for people we can share this with and they make the decision.

Keep adding to this list and carry your contact list with you at all times.

What do you say to someone you haven't talked to in years? The longer you go into the conversation and the longer it takes to bring it up, the more uncomfortable you get. Bobby called Wayne and said, "I'm so glad I got a hold of you and I'm excited to catch up with you. But Wayne, it's not the reason I'm calling today. I just started a new business and we are expanding in your area and we're looking for really sharp people and I thought of you. I don't know if you are open to new business ideas, but I'd like to talk to you about it."

Go to your local grocery store, neighborhood college, any place that posts business cards and flyers. Then collect those business cards! Add them to your contact list. If someone has made the effort and spent the money on business cards, they want to do business! A lot of those business cards belong to people who have second jobs: taxes, party planners, etc. They are entrepreneurs and are looking for additional streams of income.

  • Go home, pick up your phone and dial the numbers.

I work for Melaleuca and here's what I say. Remember you can adjust this for the business you are in.

Hi _____,

I see you are with ........ I love giving referrals ; and I 'd like to get together and hear what you do and share with you what I am doing. Could we schedule a time to meet?
