What They Don't Tell You About the Depo Provera Shot

Ok, I got on the Depo Provera Shot in 2000. I got off the Depo shot in 2006. When I got on the shot nobody told me that you should not be on the shot for no more than two and a half years. So I was on it for 6 years. I finally got off of it when I heard somebody tell me that you are not suppose to be on it longer than 2 1/2 years. When I got off the shot that next February I went to the doctors because I noticed a discoloration on my left breast.

I went through 3 mammograms before I found out that I might have cancer. I did not know what to do. I spent countless nights not being able to fall asleep. I had to be put on Ativan's for my nerves. My doctor was pretty concerned so I went and had another mammogram done at another hospital. Found out it was a tumor. So I under went a biopsy to find out if it was malignant or benign. A week after the biopsy, I went back to the hospital where I got the biopsy done and found out it was not cancerous. The only reason why I write about this is because nobody in my family has ever had anything wrong with their breasts at all. I was the only one in my family that might have breast cancer or a tumor. So be careful on the depo shot there are other stories about it that are pretty bad too.

They put the shot in your deltoid muscle and they are suppose to alternate arms every time you get it and one person I know they didn't do that and it ate away at her muscle. So please be careful when you get on this shot. Read all the side effects and precautions on it before getting it. Talk to the doctor and ask them to explain everything to you. There are so many side effects to this shot that i cannot even begin to tell you about. Yes it is a very good birth control method but if I had to pick between having a kid and breast cancer, I would pick having a kid every time. No questions asked. So please talk to your doctor and find out what birth control is right for you.
