What to Do with Those Left Over Pieces of Bar Soap

Recycle Them with These Easy Tips

Maddy Fox
Have you ever wondered what to do with those left over pieces of bar soap? You know those flat little slivers that are turning into mush in the shower! Yes I know there are body washes, but for those of us who still use the good ole bar soap and are frugal, thrifty or just plain penny pincher's I have come up with some great ideas to recycle them.

The first idea is very easy. All you need is a washcloth, needle and thread. A basic stitch is all it takes to make the cloth into a draw string bag. The draw string will make it possible to open and close as needed. Add several pieces of soap, and pull the draw string. Use the bag to lather during showering or bathing. Most if not all of the soap will have been used up, rinse the bag and hang to dry as you would your washcloth.

The second idea is to turn those pieces into hand soap. To do this you will need a container with a pump that has a wide enough mouth to insert the soap. After inserting the soap drop in a couple of beads or marbles Will work too, add some water and tighten the lid. Let it rest, the water will break down the soap. Before using shake gently to break down any remaining bits. You have now created your own hand soap for hand washing at the sink!

The last way to use up those slivers is to easily adhere the soap sliver to a new bar. Just moisten a new bar of soap, apply the sliver to the new bar. Wrap with clear plastic wrap and microwave on low for 20 to 30 seconds. Just enough time to allow the two to bond.

Mini Tips

Wood screw lubricant. Roll the screw threads along the surface of the soap remnant (wet or dry) and screw into place.

Take the small pieces of soap and simply toss them into your laundry.

Small pieces of soap can be used to mark material instead of tailors chalk and the soap will wash out of the garment .
