It never fails to actually advertise the product. Who is at fault for this one exactly? Is it TNA's fault for not doing so or is it Spike TV's fault for not giving them more ad time? How do you expect people to just watch the show if they are not aware? Sure, you have a loyal fan base but that's not going to be enough. Nevermind the thought of trying to capture old WCW or ECW fans, just try to build a new audience up. Those groups have come and gone in the industry. It would be time to actually build a TNA audience up by standing out differently than others.
The highest rating that TNA ever receives is a 1.2 overall at the end. While that isn't horrible for their standards, it's nowhere near a 2.0, the rating that WWE Smackdown has been able to get. To be honest, it competes mostly with the ECW Brand and if it is going to get better, it needs to get to a number of 2.0. They can hire all the names in the world but if you don't tell people it's on, how do you expect just to magically turn the TV on to watch?
No comment on whether the PPVs are good or not because of not seeing them but it's hard to imagine a lot of people buying the events. The big key to that is advertise the product and see what happens. What harm is it going to do to tell people when it's on getting people excited about the event coming up? The only risk is that maybe few won't watch but the reward could be greater by doing so.
The other item is simply finding the right person to build the company around. Sure, having a name hold the belt can be good for the short-term like a Sting or Kurt Angle, but what about when they are ready to retire? Who do you build the company around exactly? People like AJ Styles or even Samoa Joe can be used as the focus if you build them for it. Right now, Joe is a legit Main Event wrestler given that he has been made into a big star and AJ could use that. Sure, he was NWA Champion but was he ever truly the focus as well? What would help is him beating a name like Sting and having a major run with the TNA Title would be a benefit.
This is 2009; maybe the company can make a move and continue on making progress to get better. They may never get to compete but it would help to have another wrestling company on TV so that you have multiple choices if you will.

Post a CommentI think a lot of people only know about the WWE and not the history of the WWF or WCW. I watch TNA and if they did get the word out to more people they might give Spike that push they need to be a competitor.
