What Are the Top 10 Most Popular Undergraduate Degrees?

Nick Mayer
This knowledge comes mostly from first hand knowledge from former peers, classmates, and people whom I have created relationships over the years. While it may seem like there are some pretty random and diverse majors in universities these days, it seems like students usually are only choosing from a certain few subjects. For certain reasons, these ten majors are some of the most common majors you will find.

Business Administration - Maybe its the allure of being among many others in the business world. Maybe it is the money that is involved with big business. Maybe people just enjoy working to try and make a company succeed. What we do know, is that it is quite possibly the most popular major in the United States. Countless people have gone through their respective business schools looking to achieve their Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and it can easily be said that it is the most popular undergraduate degree available.

Communications - There are so many different options that people can do with a communications major. One can become a journalist, go into advertising, do video productions, and many more. This seems like quite popular major with many college students, simply because it is such a diverse major that almost anyone could find some sort of enjoyment in.

Economics - Economics is one of the most important majors out there. Without economics majors, there would be nobody who knew the ins and outs of the US economy, or the economics of running a business and other microeconomic virtues. Economics majors are one of the highest paid majors directly out of undergraduate school, directly behind engineers. Maybe this is why the field is so popular!

Psychology - Psychology can be one of the most interesting subjects to learn about. This could be why it is so high up at number 4 on the list of the top 10 most popular undergraduate degrees. Even without taking classes and majoring in the field, it can still be an extremely interesting topic when learning and reading by yourself. Though psychology majors usually don't pay too well out of college, what could be a more fulfilling field of study than to know about how the human brain functions?

Education - I am extremely thankful that education is still one of the most popular undergraduate degrees. Without educators to teach the children, how would this society grow as a whole? I believe that there can never be too many teachers around, even if there aren't any open positions. With that said, education is still one of the most popular degrees that the college students are choosing.

Engineering - There is no reason to question why engineering is one of the most popular majors in the country. It pays off! With college being as expensive as it is, students need to find jobs that can actually pay off all of the money that they have accrued in debt throughout their years in college. Engineering, though strenuous and difficult, will pay off in the end with the high salaries associated with it.

English - Here is a degree that I am glad isn't dieing out yet. English is one of the most enlightening and historic majors still available to take in college. Many students still enjoy reading and writing over taking tests and doing big projects, so naturally many of these students will gravitate towards taking English as a major.

Political Science - There will always be debates about politics. Who better to argue about it than qualified people? These people that are qualified to debate on the topic would be political science majors. This degree not only allows you to be well versed in debating, but also allows you to prepare for law school and going into governmental positions as well.

Sociology - Here is another intriguing, yet low paying, degree offered in thousands of colleges throughout the country. Sociology is one of the most popular degrees in the country and rightfully so. Who wouldn't want to know how people communicate with one another? Maybe that is just me, but I completely understand why anybody would want to take part in the sociological field.

History - And last, but definitely still popular, is the history major. Here is one of the more detailed majors that you could take. And if anyone says that a history major is worthless they would be dead wrong. If you have ever heard the saying that history repeats itself, then you have a case for the major right there. Often times, people can predict the future using the past as an example, and I hope that history stays popular in the university setting.
