The Disney Channel began producing Original Movies back in 1997, starting with "Norhern Lights". Of all the Disney Channel Original movies,High School Musical 2 has had the most viewers, and awards. My top ten Disney Channel Original Movies are as follows:

High School Musical 2, (2007) focuses on high school student Troy Bolton who starts the summer out stressed over getting a job, with the cost of college on his mind, as well as making sure he and Gabriella Montez are able to stay together through the summer. The Wildcats forgive Troy for his absence and convince him to perform in the talent show, which he does, and he and
Grabriella stay together. The movie ends with a pool party ("All for One") which features an appearance by Mily Cyrus.

Next, is "Hanna Montana: The Movie", (2009) produced by Peter Chelsom. With Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment. As Hannah Montana's popularity starts to take over her life, Miley Stewart is persuaded by
her father to take a trip to her hometown of Crowley Corners, Tennessee to get her life in perspective.

Then there's "Princess Protection Program" (2009). Princess Rosalinda (Demi Lovato) is threatened by an evil dictator wh wants to take control of her country. She is placed into the Princess Protection Program, a secret agency that watches over endangered princesses throughout the world. An agent named Mason, hides Princess Rosalinda in his own house and, with the assistance of his daughter Carter (Selena Gomez), she goes undercover as an ordinary teen named Rosie. Unfortunately she can only afford the expensive camp by working in the mess hall between classes. Shane overhears Mitchie singing from behind closed doors, and sets out to find out who the girl with the beautiful voice is.

Next,"Read It and Weep" is a Disney Channel original movie which stars sisters Kay and Danielle Panabaker. It's about a young girl who turns her personal, private diary in as her homework by mistake. The teacher enjoys what she's written, a story about the adventures of a cool teenager named Isabella ("Is"), and it's then published as a novel. The book turns into an big success, and Jamie gets get caught up in her newfound celebrity status, while at the same time not wanting to lose her friends or change who she is. Another popular movie, "Cheetah Girls 2", (2008) a sequel, follows the talented teen divas in their quest for pop superstardom. In an unexpected turn, they learn Chanel must accompany her mother to Spain to meet her wealthy beau Luc's family. Galleria decides to enter the group in a Barcelona music festival, and the group, Galleria, Chanel, Aquanetta and Dorinda begin the adventure of a lifetime. Then we have, "Minutemen" (2008) starring Jason Dolley, Luke Benward, Nicholas Braun, and Chelsea Staub, who play three high school outcasts who invent a time machine that send them back in time to change their
social status at school and also prevent other students from being humiliated in high school situations as well.

Also, there's "Jump In!" (2007) starring Corbin Bleu and KeKe Palmer in the story of a teen boxer, Izzy Daniels, who is making his dad proud With his success in the boxing ring. In order to qualify for the upcoming Golden Gloves competition, Izzy only needs to win one more fight, against Rodney, who is the neighborhood bully. Rodney isn't about to take their rivalry lightly.

Don't forget "Hatching Pete" (2009) starring Jason Dolley, Mitchel Musso, and Tiffany in the story of high school nobody Pete Ivey, who "hatches" out of his shell when he gets a chance to be the school mascot during a basketball game, and turns out to be the star of the show. However, no one knows it's really Pete in the costume.

Finally there's "Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board" (2007) starring Brandon Baker. The story follows Johnny Tsunami who is going back to Hawaii to meet his new family members, but they are not quite what he had expected. Johnny tries to reach out to his uncle Chris, but Chris has his own friends - and his own style of boarding known as dirt or mountain boarding.

Of all the Disney original movies, these movies stand out with the strength of their story lines. Also, some of the actors have achieved great fame from starring in these movies.
