What Type of Facial Hair Do Women like to See on Guys?

Shamontiel
In Chicago, men take their haircuts and facial hair seriously. The way women will fight for a mirror to make sure their makeup is right or their dress fits them perfectly is the way men will stare in the mirror to make sure their waves are neat (usually kept up by wearing a doo rag) and facial hair is lined correctly. There's a reason Joe Torry's character kept brushing his hair and had the name "Chicago" in the film "Poetic Justice."

Common facial hair shapes include the following:

Chin strap (Thin sideburns connecting to the beard, mustache is optional)

Chin strip or soul patch (Facial hair underneath the bottom lip, no mustache or beard)

Five o' clock shadow (This facial hair has a beard, a mustache and hair on the chin. The five o' clock shadow is meant to be worn thin but no so thin that it looks shaven. It's like taking a coloring pencil and shading the bottom part of a man's face if that was possible.)

Full beard (Like the five o' clock shadow, it traditionally includes a mustache, beard and hair along the jaws, but it's meant to be thick.)

Goatee (Hair on the chin that can oftentimes hang long similar to a goat, no mustache)

Mustache (Clean shave without a beard or sideburns but with a neat mustache as the only visible facial hair, worn both thin or thick)

Van Dyke (This is commonly mistaken for the goatee because both include a beard, but the Van Dyke is the facial hair shape that includes a mustache and connects to the beard. It used to be worn with curly tips on the mustache, but that's not common nowadays.)

Then there are men who choose not to have any facial hair and keep their face "clean."

Like women's hairstyles in naturals, perms and weaves, ladies have a preference for what type of facial hair is most attractive to them. Here are a few favorites:

"I'm a sucker for facial hair. I love neat and connected goatees on a man. I really really do. Very attractive."

- Dina Peace

"I've always found facial hair on most men to be attractive! As long as It's neat and trimmed, nothing worse than the nose tickle when kissing a man with a wild mustache. My boyfriend has grown a full beard, and I adore it!"

- Marisa Walker

"I've always liked a clean goatee. Something about it looks distinguished with a nice haircut. Five o' clock shadows looks like the man didn't care what he looked like."

- Cassandra Daniels

"I love men with a full beard like those worn by Black Thought and Rick Ross. I think it shows maturity."

- Vern

"I really like 5 o'clock shadows! As long as it's not all scratchy like sandpaper."

- Monise Seward

All facial hair types don't suit every man so before you guys start getting experimental and end up messing up your face, consider going to a licensed barber to get it shaped correctly. There's a difference between the five o' clock shadow stubble and little beady naps of hair. A thin mustache may not be pronounced enough for a man with a chubby face. Goatees, whether they're braided or hang long, should be untangled. The chin strap is no longer a chin strap once it looks like split ends. A man with no facial hair may be constantly asked for ID if he doesn't have a natural, mature look.

But when the facial hair is right and a woman purposely wants to touch your face or plant a kiss right on your cheek or lips from all that facial hair swagger, it's a win-win, fellas.
