What are Urban Cougars?

Everyone is well aware of the meaning of a Sugar Daddy, but they might not of heard the term Urban Cougar used before. An Urban cougar is described as a woman over 40 who aggressively hunt the younger man for a relationship. This is becoming ever so popular in today's society. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Madonna and Guy Ritchie are just a few of the female celebrities that have chosen to date younger men. If a 40 something guy dates an 18 year old girl there isn't much said .In fact his buddies will all congratulate him on making such a score. If the tables were turned and the older person was a woman they are looked down upon and judged. Why is that? These so called Urban cougars are doing nothing any different then their male counterpart, but they are the ones to get all the whispers behind their backs about the relationship.

Men dating younger women is something that has been going on for years. It is very common in other countries and while a lot of people wont agree with it they don't say anything. One of the reasons the older woman might be looking for a younger fellow is for the sexual aspect of the relationship. Younger men are thought to be able to perform better and at any time. While it's true as a man ages things might slow down in the love making department this isn't always the case. Especially with the medical advances and medications available such as Viagra. Men are able to provide intimate relations well into there golden years. Maybe the urban cougar is looking for a young man to train the way she likes. She can teach him the proper way to treat a woman. Could it be the older woman doesn't want to feel old so she dates the younger gentleman to keep her life filled with lots of energy. It used to be woman married for security; she wanted to know she would be taken care of. Now that's not the case, women have their own careers, houses, fancy cars and jewelry. They don't need a man to provide for them so they are free to date someone younger just starting in their adult life. There can be downfalls to the urban cougar lifestyle. Some men are looking for a woman to take care of him and provide for him financially. They might not strive so hard in their career knowing they have someone at home that will pay the bills for him. These men may want to have their own children and for the older woman her time of raising kids may have passed.

What happens five or ten years down the road when the Urban cougar starts showing her age more. Will the younger man still find that attractive or will he just move on to the next younger model? Many children will not feel comfortable with their mother dating someone who is not much older then them. They find it hard to see him as a person of authority in their life. The urban cougar way of dating is becoming more and more popular. They even have websites popping up that cater just to this type of scenario.

I myself do not find this type of relationship appealing. Not saying I have a problem with it, that's just not my cup of tea. There is a twelve year age difference in my husband and I. The old saying age is just a number is something I agree with completely. I see nothing wrong if two people have the same interests and are at the same point in their lives. I do have a problem with men and women who are looking for people to support them and shower them with fancy expensive gifts while they put no effort into the relationship.
