What USC Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina Has to Offer

Amy
I chose to attend USC Upstate in Spartanburg, SC because of the School of Business, the location of the college, and the impression that I had upon visiting. After deciding that I wanted to be a business major, I found out that USCU was AACSB accredited and that not many schools close by could say the same thing. That made me really want to get my degree at Upstate. I love the location for the most part. I was nervous about being in Spartanburg, because there is always bad things going on, at least that's the way the news makes it appear. But I wanted to still stay close to Greenville, so I could go home on the weekends or when I wanted to. All the schools close by didn't seem like the right fit for me. After I decided that I wanted attend, I came to one of the open houses. All the people that I met were just so helpful and friendly. They made a great impression on me and my family and sealed the deal, so to speak.

I registered for University 101 because I was unsure how difficult college was going to be for me in the beginning. I wanted to make the transition as easy as possible, though it could never really be easy. It was a bonus when I found out that Upstate offered University 101 for specific majors. I found out from someone that the University 101 would be taught by someone from the business department and that we would meet the dean of the business school and department heads, so I knew this was the class to be in.

Now looking back, after my first semester is over with, I know that I made a good decision. I love it at USC Upstate. Most of the people you will meet are nice and helpful. University 101 was a big hit. It helped with getting used to college, allowed me to meet with some of the business school professors and the dean, and was a great GPA booster. I finished off the semester with a 3.7 GPA. It wasn't easy, but I did it! The biggest lesson that I learned from my first semester is to keep trying. I wasn't doing well in my calculus class. The professor was great, but the book sucked so she didn't teach out of it. That made it hard to study and to be prepared for tests. I stuck it out even when 10 people out of my class dropped, I continued to try hard. I ended that class with a B+ . It was an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and pride.

USC Upstate is the place for me and I hope that everyone out there who wants to go to college finds their perfect fit just like I did.
