If you are a Christian, the answer to the above question should be, people. Unfortunately though, it seems that most people, (including Christians), care more about money than they do another human being! Now before you go jumping on leaving me a nasty comment, allow me to explain why I feel this way, and sit back a moment, think about what you would do if you were the person in the below scenario. The story below is true, but the names have been changed for obvious reasons.
A few weeks ago this very nice couples neighbor came to them, and said, "I am unable to hook up to the parks WIFI, and since the new trailer below was brought in, I cannot get on at all hardly, could you please take a look and see if you can get it up and running for me"? The husband said of course I'll help, (he's a computer geek), and went to the neighbors house and tried getting a good connection for her. It was taking so long, that the lady said, "don't worry about it, I can't afford it anymore anyway, and was going to cancel after this month. After about two hours the wife said see if she can link through our Internet, (they have a radio connection outside of the park), so the husband tried it, and it worked great! Well this nice couple said, "we'll let you connect through us because you use it very little, and it is a bit of enjoyment for you", and we'll let the owner know when we see him.
You need to understand, that this nice couple are not well off, they are both disabled, care for their disabled adult son, as well as two tween children. They work the Internet to survive, and had to get an outside connection because they could never get a good signal from the trailer park they live in. The connection they gave the neighbor was off of their personal connection, and was not taking away from the park owner, because the lady could no longer afford it and was going to cancel anyway, because her health had gone down, and she was loosing hours at work. So this couple felt they were doing nothing wrong, and had every intent on explaining the situation to the owner. Unfortunately they forgot to do so before their neighbor went in to pay her rent, and the owner went ballistic! The wife tried to explain the situation, and she was told, "don't argue with me"! The owner wanted to hear nothing of why, or anything else, all he cared was that he didn't get $20.00 for the WIFI from this lady, and the couple was under cutting his business, and they were to disconnect the lady NOW!
Now remember, this couple, and their children are not well off financially, they don't even have a car, and must walk for their groceries, because they cannot afford to have the car fixed. Remember also, they are both disabled. What are their disabilities? The wife and husband both have knee problems, and back problems. The husband has COPD, and arthritis, and the wife has arthritis in her hands and back, and is bi-polar.
At the time that the owner went off on this couple, they were on their way to the store to get some groceries, and of course they were upset. The wife cried most all the way there. Being Christian's they did not stay and "argue" with the owner, the wife walked away, and the husband said, "I'll disconnect her as soon as we are back". While walking the wife said, "I cannot disconnect our neighbor, I'd rather pay the $20.00 for her, than to disconnect her"!
So that is exactly what this couple did. When they returned home, they went to the office, and gave the manager $20.00 for the neighbors internet, and said they could not disconnect her, but she could not afford to pay the owner for their WIFI, (that rarely worked for her), so they would rather pay it for her, than to have to disconnect her, and take that little bit of enjoyment away from her.
So, now that you have read this couples story, I would again like to ask, what do you value more, money, or people? If you are a Christian you really need to think hard about this question, and think about if you were in the same situation, what would you do? I guess a really good question would be, What Would JESUS Do? Think about it now!

Post a CommentHeart warming. I guess there is so hope for us afterall. Nice article.
You are so right Sheryl! Last election hubby and I wrote in our choice for president, we wrote in Jesus! Looks like Jesus gets our vote this year too!
Wow - what a great story and article! It reminds me of how some Christians are getting ready to vote - by the economy, not the real issues; by their party, not what the candidate stands for. WWJD is right!
