What Your Veterinarian Wishes You Knew

Things to Remember Before Walking into the Vet Clinic

Ferox
Ladies and Gentlemen, take it from somebody in the industry; there are a few things your veterinarian wants you to know before you walk into the consult room with Fluffy or Fido.
  1. We know you mad an appointment and we're glad you did. However, we are a hospital and sometimes there are sick animals out the back that need urgent attention to stop them from dying. We haven't forgotten your vaccination appointment and will be there soon.
  2. If your dog bites, please tell us before he bites us. We appreciate it.
  3. If you have a concern or questions, mention them. We can't read your mind.
  4. That said, if you do have a concern you want addressed (such as itchy skin or eyes, or limping) please mention it when you book the consultation and nor just after the vaccination has been completed.
  5. If your dog has been vomiting for three days, please explain why you've brought him in now instead of, let's say, three days ago?
  6. Do not assume animal diseases are the same as human diseases. This is especially important if you are a human doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
  7. If you are a human doctor, nurse or pharmacist do not treat your dog with human medications without consulting a vet. Not only is it illegal, it could be lethal.
  8. I can't tell you exactly what's wrong every time. Blood tests are really useful.
  9. I don't want to talk about money matters any more than you do. Vets become vets because they wanted to treat sick animals, not be accountants.
  10. Vets care about your pet, but not necessarily about what colour you're painting your kitchen. But they'll listen anyway.
