While the name "virtual travel" may conjure up ideas of virtual reality machines and time travel, the truth is really not that glamorous, but it is very interesting nonetheless. The concept is really a fairly simple one. Using a computer and an internet connection, a person goes online and finds virtual destinations and tours from the comfort of their own home. For anyone who has ever used the internet take a 360 degree tour of a home, hotel room or house, the idea should seem familiar. There are a variety of sites on the internet which are geared specifically to providing internet users with a lifelike travel experience without even having to leave their homes.
These virtual travel experiences can indeed vary greatly depending on the source of the travel. Don't worry though, almost all findable examples of virtual travel are enjoyable, and all are both free and easy to access. Some virtual travel may present the traveler with a slide show, and in some rare cases, a slide show with an audio track of a tour guide explaining different aspect of what is being shown on the screen. While the slideshow method of virtual travel has become fairly popular. Other methods include just showing simple photographs, some with historical facts and trivia behind them. Some virtual travel may also make use of videos, which is truly an interesting and unique experience for anyone interested. The videos can provide a first hand look at what it would be like to travel to the location in question, and really make the virtual travel experience as real and lifelike as it could possibly be. If one is lucky enough, 360 degree tours of certain landmarks or famous areas may also be available, imagine being able to control your path through an ancient temple or church, and having the option to look up at the ceiling or down at the floor while you do so.
Even more so than simply simulating travel, virtual travel offers several benefits even for those who do have the time and resources to travel to exotic locations. Namely, before spending a lot of money to go to a location or fly out of the country, one can do a little virtual traveling to make sure that the intended destination is going to be something that they really want to see, or even worth the trip at all. By giving virtual travel a chance, arm chair tourists across the world are able to pick and analyze their next vacation spot, all without spending any money or even leaving the comfort of their own home. Even though virtual travel definitely provides an enjoyable substitute for the real thing, potential travelers may also find joy in trying out some Internet virtual travel.
While it may seem a bit unlikely that virtual travel will ever replace the sheer joy and fun that can come from conventional travel, for those who are unable to make the trip of their choice, virtual travel can be a surprisingly fun and effective way to see different parts of the world without spending a dime or leaving the comfort of their own home. Virtual travel costs nothing to try out and really is a different experience, it is recommended to all who may be open to trying a new experience, and certainly those who love travel in all it's forms.
In order to get started virtual traveling, simply type in "virtual travel + ______" where the space represents the destination of your choice into any given search engine and you should be able to find the destination of your choice represented online. So get out there and have some fun virtually traveling around the world!
