What to Do when Voting for the First Time

Bruce Bostwick
You are now 18 years and have become eligible to vote in the upcoming election. The question right now is whom do you vote for exactly. It is never the easiest question but this isn't to tell you who to vote for at all. After all, it is your right to choose whom you wish to have as your next President. With this election and future ones, it would be best to base it off important issues and how the candidates are looking to actually help this country out. If that were the focus instead of bashing their opponent to no end, then perhaps it could open the doors and make it seem more important than it had been in ages.

What Not to Do

With the 2008 Election coming up in November, there are a few issues that need to be addressed. Most likely if I was guessing, it will probably be a three person race between McCain, Obama, and Clinton. When voting, base your vote on whether you believe that the person you vote for is the right person for the job. If you based on gender or skin color, you are missing the big picture. That is like saying you could care less and only picking based on certain areas. Don't vote based on party affiliation because even the candidates in a party can be pretty bad.

What to Do

Vote for the candidate that you feel is the best representative for the nation. Another item that needs to be done is seriously research your candidates and see where they stand on important issues. Major important issues include for this election the war in Iraq or illegal immigration being another example. If the candidates have a strong plan of actually completing the tasks and preventing these problems, then vote for them.

Sure, there has always been political bashing just to gain an edge but does it really solve anything? As far as who to vote for actually, that's entirely up to you but you need to choose wisely. When Election Day rolls around, vote without regret. Just vote seriously who you believe is the right candidate. If you think that Hilary Clinton can do something great for this country, vote for her. The same can be said for Barrack Obama and John McCain. Keep in mind that this isn't going to tell you which candidate to vote for at all. This is just a guess that it's going to be a three-person race with those three being the primary three candidates. Don't vote based on skin color or gender, vote on the important issues and if you believe 100% in your mind any of them would make the best president, vote for them.
