What was the Holy Grail? A Mystery Unsolved

Lauren Axelrod
Over thousands of years the Grail had been idolized by religious followers, archeologists, and treasure seekers. There is an overwhelming amount of conspiracy theories pertaining to the actual artifact itself.

Is the Holy Grail a Myth? Was it a story concocted to turn your eyes away from the truth?

Was the Holy Grail a cup or a chalice? Many of the movies portraying this idea are, of course, for pure entertainment.

Did the Holy Grail actually hold the Blood of Christ?
Is the fountain of youth pertaining to the actual Holy Grail itself? And if it is, where is it located?

The general view is that the central theme of the Grail is Christian, although much of the imagery is from Celtic Material.Predictions and Ideas

Many Scholars believed it was a Christian symbol. The symbol was a wall painting in the 12th Century of the Virgin Mary sitting with a bowl in her lap that radiated fire.

Many believe it was the chalice that Jesus Christ drank from at "The Last Supper". This chalice was used to catch the blood of Christ as he died on the cross. This chalice was believed to hold unearthly powers and would test a man's devotion or his belief in the divine.

According to the Code, Mary Magdalene's was the true Holy Grail or rather her womb. She was said to be carrying the son of Christ. This idea was a complete falsehood according to the Roman Catholic Church. However, some interesting points come to mind about this theory.

At the end of the movie, Tom Hanks kneels down in the same place the Knights Templar did before him. The Holy Grail was buried under the Pyramid in the Louvre. It shows the coffin of Mary Magdalene. That's how it ends.

Well, according to history, ownership of the Grail was attributed to diverse groups including the Knights Templar. The knights were at their peak of influence in the 12th and 13th centuries, when the Grail theories started to circulate.

According to the Opera "Parsifal", the Grail was associated with blood and female fertility. During the 13th century, this theory gave new implication to the Holy Grail theme.

There are many other theories about the Holy Grail whereabouts.

Unfortunately, many churches have claimed that they have found the cup of Christ and refer to it as the Holy Grail. They are using fake artifacts to promote a side show for anyone that is willing to believe.

I grew up in a household where religion was an option. I found my faith in High School when I joined a group of fellow students in a Young Life camp.

I found my sign in a field of wildflowers right outside my cabin, under the stars, and through my heart.

I don't believe or disbelieve any of these theories. I am now more of a spiritual believer who is open to the divine and other views.

I do, however, think it's fascinating how the proof may be in the picture, it may be in the writing on the wall, or it may be right under your feet.
