If it were true that we are what we eat,
Horseradish would make us bitter
And lots of sugar would make us sweet.
I have reason to suspect that this is not the case
As taste sensations and demeanor do not
Occupy the same kind of space.
What we ingest does truly matter,
To our well-being and health
Beyond making us thinner or fatter;
What we put into ourselves
Never remains entirely stealth.
So eat what you will but do it with thought
'Lest you be caught unawares
With the results of ingestion being what you finally got.
Everything that tastes good for dinner
Will not contribute to your becoming a winner.
We don't eat ideas but ingest them as well,
Some healthy and some toxic;
This is which is not always easy to tell.
Filling our minds with cruel ideas and profanity
No doubt takes a toll on our brand of humanity.
What's taken in becomes part of our being
Whether intended or not,
Each bite impacts our mind's vision
And shapes and shades all of our seeing.
Ingestion is needed to keep us complete
But we must be ever aware of what we choose to eat.
