What Should You Wear When Running Errands?

Ruth Carter
Running errands is one of those necessary evils in which everyone must engage at some time in their lives. Some individuals feel that they must dress for success even when they are simply running to the bank or paying bills while others take the opportunity to wear their comfortable clothes when taking care of various errands. Some people would say it is always important to look your best, because you never know whom you might see while out and about; yet, others would argue that running errands is a time to relieve stress and not to have to worry about what you are wearing.

How does this author feel about one's fashion choice while running errands and the importance of it? What does she wear when she runs errands and why?

When I have to race around town to take care of necessary tasks and plan to return home right afterwards, I often wear a pair of black yoga pants and a comfortable shirt paired with either a pair of my flashy flip flops or my Birkenstock mules depending on the weather. If I am going to meet someone for lunch, to visit someone, or to church after completing my errands, then, I wear one of my broomstick skirts and a complementary shirt or blouse.

Is it important what you wear when you run errands? That often depends on what type of errands which you are performing. If you are simply going to the bank to put in your paycheck, paying bills, or going shopping for gifts for someone, comfortable clothing would be completely appropriate whereas if one of your errands involves going to apply for a loan or meeting with someone special, you might want to consider more dressy attire.

Why do I wear what I do when I run errands? When my errands do not involve meeting with or going to visit someone, I do not have a problem with wearing my casual wear. My thought is if I am comfortably dressed, I will enjoy fighting the crowds at the mall and paying my bills much more than if I were more formally attired. However, if I am trying to make a good impression on someone and want her or him to know that I consider my meeting with him or her to be important, I will wear one of my skirts and blouses.

All in all, what you wear to run errands is really up to you and your comfort level. However, I would highly recommend if you are going to be taking care of an errand that involves meeting or making an impression on someone, please dress in a way that you would want him or her to be dressed for you.

Great article! I agree that whatever a person chooses is best. i usually wear a long skirt and a blouse but that's what's comfortable to me. If it's cold (which is rare here in Houston), then I wear the stretch pants and a comfortable long shirt. :-)

I agree with you Ruth. As long as you are clean, who cares what you wear?

I can just see you running around town. Wish I was there to run errands with you, sis!
