What to Wear to Work

S. Ann
These days what is acceptable to wear to the office is changing. More and more offices are switching to business casual, which means that you will be able to wear casual pants, open-toed shoes, and button down shirts. Casual wear has allowed people to spend more money on their work clothing, but it has also created more problems. Some people do not know what to wear to the office. This can cause them to over dress or under dress. But how do you know what to wear during the work week?

The first step is to always wear clothing that is clean. Wearing shirts that you wore earlier in the week are not appropriate. Don't wear clothing that has tears or holes. This is not a professional look for the office. Business casual is a little less dressy than traditional attire, but you should wear clothing that is clean and presentable.

The second step is to wear clothing that fits. Items that are too tight or too loose will appear sloppy. While you do not have to spend a fortune in clothing, you should buy pieces that fit well. If you lose weight or gain weight, you will have to buy clothing that will cover your body. While it is fine to be a little trendy, you do not want to wear clothing that you would go out after work in. The clothing should still appear professional and should represent your company.

The third step is to find pieces that are comfortable, but still have classic lines. Well tailored slacks, fitted sweaters, shirts with cuffs, and jackets are all pieces that are comfortable. You do not have to spend a lot of money when putting together an office wardrobe. Buy a few pairs of pants, sweaters, and shirts. You can fill in with more clothing later on. You should invest in two or three pairs of shoes. Decide which styles look the best on you.

The final step is to buy small accessories that will pull your look together. You will be amazed how a few accessories can change an entire outfit. Now you are ready to go to work and feel secure in a business casual workplace. Most people can look professional without having to spend too much time or money. You will also be surprised by how long your new pieces will last if you take care of them.
