What is a Weed?

A Haiku Trio

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

Dandelions bloom
Wherever nature plants them;
Random or by plan.

Natural breath blows
Across them as they dry out,
Spreading all their seeds.

Smiling at the sun,
Yellow springs up everywhere.
Who defines a weed?

    In Vermont, there's fields and fields of yellow dandelions and they're beautiful.

    I love, love, love dandelions and can recite a poem about them that my mother read to me as a child! I, too, survived the 60s!

    The USDA classifies plants as weeds, and apparently such well-known wildflowers as dandelions and buttercups are classified as invasive weeds. Very enjoyable poem, David, thanks!

    And there are so good for you . You can eat them, make Dandelion Tea and even coffee out of their roots. They clean your kidneys and liver. They are excellent. I always try to find some.

    Although a nuisance to some, I've always found a large spread of their yellow flowers to be beautiful.

    Nice trio. I like dandelions. They're really cheerful in both forms. :)

    Some weeds are beautiful, others, not so much. Great job on this trio!
