What a Weekend!

This was a Busy Weekend Now I Need a Break

Tony Payne
This was definitely a busy weekend but where do I begin the story...

I think to make things easier to understand and instead of digressing too much during the story, I have better explain a few things before I get into the details.

Ok... here we go...

My wife has not been well lately, we think she has Labrynthitis, so she is constantly dizzy and stumbling, and feels really tired. As a result, she has hardly been out of the house for the last couple of months, and is scared to even go into the back garden on her own in case she tumbles over. She doesn't have to do much before she is exhausted either.

Sunday her son didn't feel too well. He is currently living with her daughter and boyfriend while he saves up to get a place of his own, and sometimes his girlfriend stays over there with him.

He woke up with a bad stomach, and during the day the pains just got worse, and he ended up vomiting too. Now he isn't one to complain since he has a high pain threshold, but it was obvious that he was in a lot of pain.

So they took him to the hospital, where they diagnosed him as having appendicitis and admitted him

We got a phone call about 8pm on Sunday evening from her daughter, so we had to wrap up and head out to the hospital.

Of course by this time it was pitch black outside, our central heating isn't working right now so my wife was cold, and with the shock of the news she was also shaking. Our outside light isn't coming on, so I had to help her shuffle down the path to the car, which is a steep downhill path with steps, and then we headed out to the hospital.

She was shaking all the way there, which is about 5 miles, even when the heating in the car decided to kick in. in the last few days the temperatures at night have dropped rapidly, so it was probably in the mid 40's when we headed out.

When we got to the hospital we had to park about ΒΌ mile away, since the car parks are expensive and usually full as well, so we parked outside the cemetery up and across the road (nice to have one close to the hospital!), and had to walk to the hospital entrance.

Well with the Labrynthitis my wife was walking extremely slowly, and every few steps she would grip my hand tightly as she felt she was going to stumble. It was like walking with an 80 year old woman, which is pretty worrying, plus of course she was still cold and in shock, so she was shaking like a leaf.

We got into the hospital, managed to find our way upstairs ok and her son and his girlfriend, plus her daughter and boyfriend were there with him.

In the panic to park, my wife's daughter had managed to reverse into another car, and so she was horribly stressed up about that, let alone the agony that her brother was in.

The doctor said that it was likely to be a few hours before they could operate as the theatres were busy, so after a couple of hours we headed home, and took her son's girlfriend back with us.

Her son's girlfriend was due to start at university on Monday, she is going to be studying nursing, but of course with everything that was going on she hadn't had time to get everything ready.

We had to take her back to my wife's daughter's since she had left some stuff there, and then she was going to head back to her parent's house across the other side of town to get everything else that she needed.

We saw her into my wife's daughter's place, but what we didn't find out until later is that there is a door handle there which if lifted up effectively stops anyone from outside being able to open the door. Unfortunately, she left this up when she left the house, so in the early hours of the morning when my wife's daughter and boyfriend came home, they couldn't open the front door.

Now they could have gained entry through the back door, however since they have a tendency to leave the keys in the door, they couldn't get a key in from the outside.

Their only option was to break a window and to break into their own house, during which my wife's daughter managed to get some glass stuck in her hand.

In the meantime we had got home and managed to get to bed, but up until about 3am, every time we managed to get to sleep, someone would text us on the phone, and so by the time it came to get up for work at 6:30am I was just in a daze.

As you get older we have both found that it gets harder to deal with late nights, old farts that we are...

With the likelihood that her son hadn't been operated on still, we decided that I would take Monday off work, and then I could take my wife to the hospital to see her son.

Nothing had been done by 9am when she called, so we headed in to see him, to find when we arrived that he had already gone down to theatre.

We waited about an hour and a half before he came back, and he seemed to be ok thank goodness. Even though by the time they operated it was a bit pussy, they still managed to remove the appendix using keyhole surgery, and so recovery should be faster.

As of this morning, her son is due to be released later today, and his girlfriend should be able to pick him up.

Meantime we are both exhausted still, and I am sure I am fighting off a cold or something. Mind you, hospitals do that to me...

So what a weekend, a calamity of errors, and there is far more I could add that was going on as well, but hopefully all's well that ends well as they say.
