What a Weird College Football Season?

Jacob Horn
What a weird college football season? The sentiment from most sport writers is that this season has been a huge letdown. We should have seen the writing on the wall when Sam Bradford basically had his season ended in the first game of the year. Everybody should take a look at the AP Top 25 poll and remember this period in our history. Football powerhouses such as Florida State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia, and Notre Dame are no where near the top 25. I cannot remember a time during the past 15 years when there were so many storied programs struggling so bad. The parity that can be seen in the NFL is slowly creeping into the college game. Navy now expects to beat Notre Dame. Michigan cannot win a game in the Big 10 while Florida State is struggling in a weak ACC conference.

On the other hand you have Boise State, TCU, and Cincinatti occupying spots 4-6 in the afforementioned poll. While it has been fun to have these teams near the top of the polls, well nobody really cares. I do not hear anybody screaming for Boise to obtain a BCS spot. They are a good team but the WAC might just be the worst conference in football. The win over Oregon was great but show me a little more. I know that nobody wants to play you but until you figure out a way to toughen up that schedule nobody is going to care. Call it Hawaii syndrome. I think all of us are still a little weary of the whooping that the Bull Dogs put on them a few years ago. TCU could sneak into the national championship game or they could play Iowa in the most boring game of all time. Brian Kelly has done great at Cinci but for some reason they are getting no love. A big win against Pittsburgh might help that out a little bit.

I love my college football but this season has been far from the greatest ever. Florida might be the most boring dominating number one team of all time. I believe they are just going through the motions until they play Bama a week and a half from now. We might only get to see the real Florida team two times this year (SEC and National Championship). What do we need to turn this season around? TCU beating Texas, Bama, or Florida in the National Championship might be just what the doctor ordered.
