What to Get Your Wife for Mother's Day

Sometimes Mom Needs Help from Dad

Kim Keason
What does mom really want for Mother's day? This is a question that only an attentive husband can answer. A gift for mom does not have to come directly from the kids. The perfect gift may need some help from dad. Here are some gift ideas for your wife on Mother's day.

Gift for Your Wife on Mother's Day: Clothes

Ask yourself, what is your wife's wardrobe like? Is she at home most of the time in sweat pants or jeans? If the answer is yes then your wife may need encouragement to do a little clothes shopping. It does not have to be anything extravagant but a few new shirts, some pants, and maybe some sexy undergarments may be exactly what mom needs to feel like an adult again.

If your wife is cost conscious she may not want to spend the extra money or time to do the shopping. Give her an afternoon to shop the sales without the kids tagging along. This will prevent the rush of just grabbing something and dashing out of the store. It will also give her time to try on clothes in the store before she buys them.

As a last resort, go shopping for her. This is noble gesture but I can almost guarantee that it may make her feel less than adequate with her wardrobe. Plus, you may not have the same tastes in clothes as your wife does. Use this only to force her hand into buying new clothes. Give her the receipts so that she can exchange anything she does not like for clothes that she will love to wear.

Gift for Your Wife on Mother's Day: Personal Maintenance Services

This may sound silly, but it means a haircut, highlights, manicure, pedicure, facial, or a massage. A full spa day maybe ideal for some women, but many moms that I know would not take a day or even half of a day for pampering. If your wife views this as a waste of time, then purchasing a small service will almost force her to do it.

You have to first decide which personal maintenance service she would like the best. You can get a gift certificate to a place that has all of these services and let her decide which one she would like. If your wife is sensitive and has neglected certain things, do not point them out. A gift certificate may be the safest bet. Wrap it up and let her decide what she would like to have done.

Mom puts the family first and sometimes ends up neglecting herself in the process. Help your wife get her adulthood back this Mother's day by getting her a gift that will make her feel like a woman again.

"If your wife is sensitive and has neglected certain things, do not point them out." That's right! Don't DARE point them out! Thanks for cautioning men against picking out clothes for their wives. This rarely works out...I have to help clueless men pick out clothes for their wives where I work; I imagine that most of those clothes are returned. They'll ask me to show them where the "comfortable" clothes are, or they'll want to get "something dressy" and they won't even know her size--HELLO, if you're that clueless, PLEASE give your wife a gift card. PLEASE!
