He went to Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and then Tampa Buccaneers, in the mid eighties. After a season with Tampa, he retired with a career as a quarterback with 21,115 yards and 111 touchdowns, completing half of his passes, and running for more than a dozen touchdowns. Would that make him a good coach for the Washington Redskins? No, it didn't.
Zorn became a college coach for Boise State University as a quarterback coach during late eighties and early nineties. He then served as the offensive coordinator for Utah State. Then a quarterback coach at the University of Minnesota. His professional coaching was with the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, as a quarterbacks coach. As of January 30, 2010 Zorn was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as their quarterbacks coach. Did this experience as a quarterback coach qualify him as a head coach, and offensive coordinator, and quarterback coach for the Redskins? No, it did not. Perhaps it would've made him a good quarterback coach.
On January 2008, Daniel Snyder hired Zorn as the Redskins' new offensive coordinator. On February 10, 2008, he hired him as the head coach. Perhaps that was the first problem he was hired as offensive coordinator, which he had some previous experience, but not as much as he had as a quarterbacks coach. The Redskins went 8-8 in 2008, and 4-12 last season. He was later fired in at the end of last season. However, he suffered humiliation during his last year with Redskins. He was basically striped of his duties as offensive play caller, assigning them to assistant coach Sherman Lewis following the Redskins' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in October.
The problem starts from the top we have had several coaches to try their luck since Snyder has become owner. They've all failed. We have had some sparks, but the flame soon dies down. Once we realize that money can buy some of the supposedly good players bit once you've paid for them they lose some motivation. If we spend that much money on players perhaps we should spend that much on who coaches them. Once players show that they don't want to play give the next person on the bench a chance. Put some fire under that player(s). Our new coach(es) hopefully will be leaders and have great followers. Then maybe we'll have a great team again.
