What the World Wants for Christmas: A Christmas Poem

Rachael A. Lund
Have you ever stopped to wonder

What the world wants for Christmas

While we sing our songs of "Peace on Earth"

Nations must fight to protect themselves

While we say "Goodwill Towards Men"

Genocide annihilates people groups

While we decorate our homes for the holidays

Thousands of families live in refugee camps

While we buy each other expensive gifts

Millions of street children barely have clothes

While we plan our Christmas Feasts

Thousands of children starve to death each day

While we enjoy our family and friends

Millions of widows are alone and destitute

The nations want to be safe

The people groups want to live

The families want to go home

The street children want to be warm

The starving children want to survive

The widows want someone to care

It's not very hard to see what the world wants

The question is, will anyone give it to them
